How Do I take a “Good” Picture??

First of all, it’s ok to break the rules but keep these things in mind though:

The Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is a composition guideline. What is means is that when you are photographing your subject you place your subject in the left or right third of the image. That would then leave two thirds of the image more open. Some say that this will draw the viewer’s eye more effectively to the subject by the use of negative space!

Consider What is Right Behind Your Subject

Ok, we’ve all done it! You take that amazing pic of your kiddo and when you look at it…THERE IS A TREE STICKING OUT OF HER HEAD! It needs to be said, be aware of what’s directly behind your subject. Of course, you can use photoshop afterwards to remove unwanted background but who has that kind of time??

What About Light?

Lighting can be a big deal in photography. There is so much to learn about light that it can be overwhelming. Just keep a few things in mind: If you are photographing outside a consistent amount of light in your frame will look smooth and contrasting light ends up making the photo seem more edgy. If you are photographing inside be sure to TRY to use only one type of light, if possible. If you are taking a photo by the window, turn off that lamp. And if you are wanting to use indoor light, get away from the windows. Contrasting light inside make it hard to get a good picture.

In the end, the way you photograph says a lot about you and your creativity. If YOU like the picture then who care about the “rules”!
