How to Prepare for an In-home Newborn Photography Session

Are you thinking about doing an in-home photography session? Great! Here are 3 easy tips to prepare for your newborn session:

Have Outfits Chosen the Night Before

Choose your outfits (and backups for you and baby) ahead of time. It’s no fun to realize that cute onesie in the wash and hour before your session! We recommend you choose mostly neutral colors with some accent color or bold color. Avoid logos and neon colors, which will leave a color cast on your baby.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Ok, just kidding! We know how hard it can be to get “good” sleep when you have a newborn! Just do your best to take care of yourself before your session: nap when your baby naps, eat a nourishing meal, and take some time for a warm shower or bath. Baby steps, right?

Stick to Your Regular Schedule and Don’t Stress The Small Stuff

Leave plenty of down time and stick to your typical schedule. Try not plan too much before or after your session, having photos taken can be enough activity for a whole day!

Lastly, try to not worry about the small stuff. Having a new baby means a lot of big changes for you and your family. It’s overwhelming, it’s amazing and… it’s a mess! That’s OK! We will document what this special time was like for you and your family. Your photos will have more meaning this way. Happier adults equal happier kids! When everyone feels relaxed and comfy, it shows in the photos. Remember that it’s about the connection, not the state of your home. Deep breaths…
