OMG…it’s School Picture Day!
Whether you have a 4th grader or a fourteen year old when picture day comes, things get a little dicey! Your 4th grader wants to wear their pj’s and your teen wants to wear…well, THEIR PJ’S!?! (What’s up teens and their pj pants obsession??)
Let It Be!
Ok, I hate to be the bearer of uncomfortable news but kid’s picture day outfits are not worth getting your scrunchies in a bunch! For teens, let them choose something that accurately represents who they are in this moment and you’ll be glad you did. (Think of how you can gloat in ten years when they look back and say, “What the heck was I thinking?!?!?!?”) For smaller kiddos the “You Pick” trick works like magic! Choose a couple of your favorite outfits and have them choose from your picks!
Ok, There are SOME Rules:
Usually we advise that kids don’t choose anything with writing on it or large logos which can be distracting. Also, neons where great in the 80’s but for photos it can cast a neon light on your kiddo, so steer clear of that lovely part of the 80’s.
Some Pro-Tips:
The most important part of picture day is what happens before the camera comes out:
Did your kiddo get to bed at a decent time?
Did they have an unrushed morning?
Did they get enough protein in the morning and their lunch box to sustain big smiles?
If your morning has gone south despite all best efforts, may I recommend Rescue Remedy?? (Seriously, Google it…’yer welcome.)
